Position summary
We are looking for a qualified teacher to love and nurture the our children 18 months - 3 years as the Assistant Lead Teacher. The Assistant Lead Teacher should possess high energy and the ability to handle the demands of toddlers with different personalities and needs. Will act as a second lead teacher when classroom count is over 12 toddlers.
Work Hours:
9:00 - 1:00 / 2:00 - 5:30 Monday - Thursday
9:00 - 1:00 / 2:00 - 4:30 Friday
Qualifications summary
- Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.
- Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver.
- Lead caregivers for toddlers must have 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs, or 45 hours of MiRegistry approved infant and toddler development and care practices within 6 months of hire.
- Must have high energy
- Must love children.
Must be a Seventh-day Adventist in good and regular standing.
Duties and responsibilities
- The caregiver will be trained to assist in the classroom and care for children which may include distributing lunches and/or washing dishes.
- Supervises a class without supervision.
- Assumes the responsibilities of the Lead Teacher during the absence of the Lead Teacher or when count is over 12 toddlers.
- Accepts responsibility for maintenance and necessary housekeeping duties of the classroom, common use areas and playgrounds.
- Manage all day-to-day classroom activities.
- Assists and coordinates snacks, meals, nap time and bathroom activities.
- Provides the children with verbal praises and acceptance while providing clear and consistent expectations for the children's behavior.
- Maintains the Crayon Box's professional attitude and work behavior.
- Observes all rules and regulations of The Crayon Box and the local, state or national regulatory agencies pertaining to the health, safety and care of children.
- Assists in other capacities, as determined by the Director.
- Ability to express themselves well in oral and written English
- Follows the schedule, as determined by the Director.

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age with high school diploma.
- Must meet LARA requirements for lead caregiver: a bachelor's degree or higher in early childhood education, child development, or a child-related field, associate’s degree or higher in early childhood education or child development or high school diploma with coursework in child-related field and experience.
- Lead caregivers for toddlers must have 3 semester hours, 4.5 CEUs, or 45 hours of MiRegistry approved infant and toddler development and care practices within 6 months of hire.
- Proven experience as an toddler teacher.
- Excellent understanding of the principles of child development and toddler educational methods
- Familiarity with safety and sanitation guidelines for classrooms
- Excellent communication and instructional skills
- Ability to act as mediator between children
- Cool-tempered, friendly, and reliable
- Must have a warm and friendly personality with sensitivity to the feelings and needs of both children and adults.
- Display a willingness to fulfill responsibilities in accordance with the center's philosophy and mission.
- Job requires much physical activity and a high energy level.

- To ensure success, the applicant should display a gentle and nurturing personality, and the patience to assist each child to mature cognitively. They should be able to assist in developing the children's social skills as they interact with each other.

Physical demands
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 5% sitting, 25% walking, and 70% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Work environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
